Laine is a Hab
Patrick Laine is now a Montréal Canadien. While there had been rumours in the past years of Laine landing in Montreal, Kent Hughes pulled the trigger and sent defenceman Jordan Harris and his second-round pick to the Columbus Blue Jackets for the 26-year-old at a cap hit of $8.7 million for the next two years. As a Habs fan, I’m torn. I trust Ken Hughes, I truly do. He has not steered us wrong yet, but can Laine handle what it takes to be a Montréal Canadien? He’s never had this spotlight before. This isn’t Winnipeg. This isn’t Columbus. This is Bell Centre, making $9 million a year. If you’re not scoring in Montreal, you’ll hear it. I’ll be it you’ll hear it in French, but you’ll hear it Is this finally the change of scenery he needs? Will the mental health issues get in the way, or will he mesh nicely with this young core and be a potential re-sign piece in a couple of years? We are yet to see.
I’m optimistic and I’m not too worried just because of where he’s at and his contract. You get two more years before unrestricted free agency. You get him in for one, and if he only makes it a half year next year before you have to flip him at the deadline, then you do it. Anyways, he’s on my team now. He’s got a big CH on his chest, so I’ll lay my life down on the line for him. Until he pisses me off as much as Josh Anderson does.
