The NFL season opener is upon us, and it's time to dive into some juicy betting trends for the Chiefs vs. Ravens showdown. As defending champs, the Chiefs have history on their side - Super Bowl winners are a sizzling 15-3 straight up and 12-5-1 against the spread in Week 1 since 2004.

This is a stand-alone prime time game. Prime time games have their own quirks. Home teams cover at a solid 54.2% clip under the lights, while the Under has been cashing tickets 52.8% of the time. And don't sleep on those underdogs - they've been barking to the tune of 52.3% ATS in prime time since 2018.

The Chiefs closed out last season on fire at 15-6 SU and 13-8 ATS including playoffs. But the Ravens were no slouches either, going 14-5 SU and 12-7 ATS. This clash of the two AFC heavyweights opened with KC -3.5, but sharp money has pushed it down to -2.5 at most books.

Historically, home favorites of 2.5 points cover about 54-55% of the time. But with two elite QBs squaring off, this one feels like a coin flip. The real intrigue lies in the total, currently sitting at a juicy 46.5 points.

My Pick

Give me the Under 46.5. NFL scoring has been trending down, with the average total plummeting to just 43 points last season. Prime time games have been especially stingy lately.

While Mahomes has torched Baltimore in the past, the Ravens have a new OC and added Derrick Henry to pair with Lamar Jackson. That could lead to a more methodical, clock-chewing approach. I see a tight, defensive struggle with both teams feeling each other out in Week 1. This one stays Under the number in a 23-20 type of affair.
