Oilers extend Draisaitl
Sexual assault enabler Stan Bowman made his first half decent move as Oilers GM by signing Leon Draisaitl to an eight-year contract extension valued at $112 million. This new deal, which begins in the 2025-26 season and extends through 2033, sets a new benchmark in NHL history with a salary cap hit of $14 million per season, the highest in the league.
Draisaitl has been instrumental in their recent successes, including leading the team to Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final last year alongside Connor McDavid. The German forward, who was the league's MVP in 2020, was poised to enter unrestricted free agency next summer, making this extension a crucial move for the Oilers.
General Manager Stan Bowman (who let Kevin Beach get assaulted under his watch and then covered it up because the team was on a cup run during his time with the Blackhawks and for some reason is allowed to be part of the NHL despite his clear lack of concern for his players) emphasized Draisaitl's commitment to the team and his desire to bring a Stanley Cup to Edmonton as central to the extension. The deal ensures that Draisaitl remains a cornerstone of the Oilers' lineup, continuing his impressive career in Edmonton where he has already amassed 850 points over 719 regular-season games.
This contract extension not only secures Draisaitl's future with the Oilers but also sets the stage for upcoming negotiations with McDavid, who will be eligible for an extension next July.
